This flower bed next to my deck has always been covered in weeds. Some kind of mustard plant.
So I decided it was time to cardboard it up! I raked back all the mulch in half the bed and put down cardboard. But first I had to dig out this post anchor I put in a few years ago for my first attempt at a shade wall. That was a beast to dig out! There is one more right next to the hose, but I am just leaving it. (Lazy I know)
I have two new fruit tree/bush babies in this bed. A Mullberry bush and an Aronia berry, Chokeberry.
I had these giant tiles from a few years ago. Someone was getting rid of them, so another free material score for my garden. Anton LOVED watching me move these from the back corner to here because the ants went nuts underneath these tiles in the back corner where it is all dry and sandy. That's one area I have yet to get deep mulched.
These Japanese anemones are my spring favorites! They do spread, though I wish they spread faster.
My baby almond tree is doing great. Lots of new leaves busting out. And I got it's own water to it too. And a ladybug rock for some happiness.
View from my bedroom window. Dogwood and lilac blooming. I love these two plants. I wish our Dogwood was doing better. It is on it's way out. Arborist said it was planted too deep and it is in too sunny of a spot and does not like our soil. :(
The start of first ever Adventure Garden mini!!!!! This new side yard will be it's own fenced off space. As our fence guy, Don, puts in this new fence, I will be putting in a short fence in the back yard to make this an enclosed space. I could not be more excited! It will probably be done by my birthday for sure....well, the new fence anyway. After the fences are up, the fun work begins!!
The path finally finished. Though after that fence behind the shed comes down, I will be doing something at the corner of the shed to connect the big pavers and the brick path somehow. After this picture, I finished off the curved edge with more rock. Inside the two wood pieces on the right of the picture, I will be planting succulents.
Another new project: compost bed. The stick tower is to put compost in for the summer. As it breaks down, it will feed my greens bed. I planted lettuce, kholrabi, one sweetpea, swiss chard, cilantro and flower...that I cannot remember the name of. (Green pom pom something...)
To kill off the little grass patch next to new path, I layered some old leaf bags right on top of the grass then put the landscape fabric over that, then a layer of mulch.
This is just a very messy, late night couldn't sleep, kind of sketch...but I am planning on changing up the set up of my back corner garden. I want to create a peaceful space that's completely surrounded by growing things, tall things. So I will take down the cattle panels that make the arch right now and put them in curve to make tall supports for all my tomatoes to try out growing on this year. Then the very back corner will turn into a wild space for bees and butterflies. Down the road MAYBE add our own beehive! But for now, just sectioning it off mostly and planting bee and butterfly favorites is the goal.
